Acquaintance with modern Panama City and a real backpacker
As I mentioned before I can’t call myself a backpacker at all. I didn’t hitchhike, I didn’t spend the night in tents, and I didn’t even have a backpack: it was replaced by an elegant women’s bag on wheels, all in flowers. To be honest, during the entire trip, this bag received more compliments than I did. Okay, I’m lying - for South Americans, I was the most beautiful :) Mostly because I'm white. That is another long story.
I didn’t strive to become a real backpacker, mostly because of my safety - I travel alone, and I’m a short, thin girl - so in many ways, my actions were limited for safety reasons. For example, after sunset, I did not leave the hotel alone. Although (you will find it out later) this did not stop me from visiting various dangerous places :D
So why am I doing this? Back in my homeland, I found a wonderful site with wonderful travelers and excellent notes and advises: https://bpclub.ru Here is my profile - and the banal “add me as a friend”! :D
At this forum, I met interesting people with whom I planned to meet during my travels. And today is that very day! Sergei F. arrived, and my happiness knew no bounds! :)
Firstly, I was still in a state of shock and simply didn’t know what to do next (I still didn’t have a plan). Secondly, I just really wanted to talk to someone on the topic “Who are all these people, and what is happening here?” Sergey turned out to be exactly what I needed. He had a lot of travel experience and was as calm as an elephant! The first thing he said when he saw me was: “You need a normal backpack!” :D
We went for a walk around Panama City, but not through the old city, on the contrary – in the new part of it. Through the narrow streets of the center, we gradually moved towards the business part of the Panama capital with skyscrapers and civilization. It was a completely different city! Modern, clean, non-smelly, and seemingly safe. There are many decently dressed people, police officers, shops, supermarkets, diplomatic missions, entertainment centers, and even a yacht club! I finally came out of the shock. We even ate at some dinner place after sunset!
So, Seryoga, thank you very much for your help! If it weren't you, I don't know how things would have ended!
